The Sarasvati River, located in what is now northwestern India and parts of eastern Pakistan is mentioned throughout the Rigveda. It is described as flowing between the Yamuna and the Sutlej. Later texts like the Mahabharata recount how the river eventually dried up in the desert. A small present-day river called the Sarsuti, which joins the Ghaggar, is thought to be its remnant.
