Which Hermes Scarf Is Carrie Wearing in SATC? (All That Glitters Episode)

It’s the first pleated scarf in the series,
So let’s do it.

When it comes to iconic style, “you can't help but” think of Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex and the City." Played by Sarah Jessica Parker, she's the epitome of fashion-forward. Carrie's style? Well, it's like this perfect mix of high-end glamour and downtown cool. She can pull off everything from designer labels to thrift store finds with this effortless charm that just draws you in. And her accessories! Perfection. Whether it's her statement necklaces or her unforgettable shoes, Carrie's look is a lesson in wearing what feel right to you.

And in the Episode “All That Glitters” she goes clubbing with a whole group and has a pleated scarf tied around her arm. But which on is it?

Above are the main clips I used for reference

We were lucky and were able to see nearly the full scarf within the first scene where it was shown. Here are the details that I noticed first:

  1. The Pleating
This tells us about the time period because Hermes stopped pleating scarves around the early 2000’s (until very recently)
    2. The Corner
The color match up of the the red, yellow and blue is quite recognizable

    3. The Border
This goes along with number 2, in this case

    4. The Color Variation
There seems to be a watercolor effect towards the center.

Carrie Bradshaw is wearing the Hermes “Smiles in Third Millenary” scarf by Ibrahim Alamia Kwumi Sefedin (2000)

In 1997, during a civil war, a 14-year-old Sudanese boy named Sefedin lost his parents. He eventually found refuge at a Doctors Without Borders base camp, which placed him in a school for orphans. There, he created vibrant chalk sketches of African landscapes. These sketches caught the attention of Jean-Louis Dumas, the former chief executive of Hermès, who had previously visited the school and requested to see the work of talented young artists. Impressed by Sefedin's work, Dumas hired him to design for Hermès. Sefedin went on to create six unique styles. Despite being born amidst war and witnessing constant death, his designs exude a profound sense of peace.
