Why I Keep My Clothes in Garment Bags

The ones I use
and all their benefits

There are so many many reasons why I love storing my clothes in garment bags, but I’ll spare you and just go through my top 5.

  1. Overall Design

I really like these garment bags because the front is a clear plastic for ease of use and the back is a non-woven fabric. This means you still get some breathability and also protection from the plastic.

2. General Protection

A lot of my clothes do not get worn that often, so with most of the time spent hanging in the closet, it gives me peace of mind to know that they aren’t gathering dust or moth holes (old house problems). And if I am traveling, it’s always a great option to have in terms of protection from rain and dirt.

3. Organization

I love that in addition to protection they work as an organization tool.

The set on the left by Silvia Tcherassi includes a top, shorts and a belt, all which can be stored together.

The tie-dye Alexis dress is linen and has delicate straps that I do not want to strain by leaving it hanging, however I do want to store it with my other dresses. By leaving it folded, the straps remain intact and the dress stays protected.

The Agua by Agua Bendita dress came with some paperwork that I wanted to hold onto. Because of the garment bags, I can easily store it with the dress.

4. Size

All my garment bags are the suit length option. I find this size to be extremely cost effective and versatile. This size fits everything from tops to pants and short to medium length dresses. They will fit long dresses if you are careful about folding the bottom of the dress to avoid wrinkles. These garment bags are 24in wide by 40in tall.

5. Cost

The key to garment bags is buying in bulk. I purchase these from Uline and they are only $110 for 50 garment bags. I held off on buying them for awhile because I thought they were cost prohibitive, but buying in bulk makes the pricing way better and certainly much cheaper than anything happening to the clothes inside.
