How to Show Off Hermes Hand Rolled Edges

It isn’t always about the center
Sometimes the edges need their moment too

I spent months hunting down this “Cheval Mascotte” scarf for the amazing motif in the center, the colorway and the comical last place award in the corner. But the dotted hand rolled edges need their time to shine too. Watch the tutorial above to see how I did it.

About “Cheval Mascotte”

“Cheval Mascotte” was released as part of the Spring/Summer 2023 collection and I knew which colorway I wanted; it was “Beige Dorè, Cyamen, Multicolor” and it was a size 70cm, my favorite. I’d been seeing this scarf by Liz Stirling pop up all over the European Hermes websites for months, but never on the United States site.

A Note About Liz Stirling

Liz Stirling is always an artist I have an eye out for because I love the subtle humor on all her scarves. In Spring/Summer 2019 I decided to pass on one of her scarves called, “Hot to Trot”, which was her first scarf for Hermes, (seen below) in a lavender colorway and deeply regret it, as I haven’t been able to find it since. With “Cheval Mascotte” the humor is there as well with a large award on the corner that says “Last”, which makes me laugh for so many reasons.

Hermes Shopping Trip in DC

I had a trip to Hermes in DC planned at the beginning of October 2023 and figured I’d ask if there were any in stock. No one in the store recognized the name of this scarf. Furthermore, I brought it up on my phone and no one recognized the design either! I was asked to read the stock number so they could enter it into the system and see if any were in the country.
Upon entering the SKU, the system pulled up that this scarf was never ordered for the US stores. However, there was an international return and there was only one in the country. When I asked, “which store has it?” My SA replied, “We do!” and it was hiding in the drawer right below us.

The scarf in the store was in the “Jaune Vif, Vert, Bleu” combination and I couldn’t believe it was right in front of me.

But here’s the thing, even though luck (or fate) was on my side with this one, it’s not the color I was looking for and decided to leave it behind for someone else. At lunch after leaving the store, I found the colorway I loved on eBay for even less than retail and decided to add it to my collection!
