Hermes "Chapeau!" by Annie Faivre
I overlooked this scarf so many times
Until one detail caught my eye.
The number of times I’ve seen this “Chapeau!” by Annie Faivre scarf and never zoomed in is actually quite appalling. I always thought it looked like a more traditional Hermes scarf and I typically go for the ones with a bit more whimsy.
One day I was trying to identify an Hermes scarf from a movie that didn’t look familiar to me and by chance clicked on “Chapeau!”. I knew it was one I never looked closely at and wanted to see the details in hopes of a match. And what I actually saw, amazed me.
One of my favorite movies is Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and couldn’t believe how eclectic this design was (especially for 1990, when it was first released) and how perfectly it mimicked the movie. From the sailboat in the wig to the exaggerated bows. Watch my unboxing highlight below.
When I received the scarf I also found the artistry quite interesting, as I’ve never seen this particular technique used before. There is a white overpaint used to create bold white highlights and I thought this was so cool.
So, who is Annie Faivre?
Annie Faivre began working with Hermes in 1979 and has created right around 50 scarves with Hermes to date. When she was younger her nickname was “little monkey” nearly all of her scarves have a little monkey hidden somewhere in the scarf design.
