Which Hermes Scarf Is Cate Blanchett Wearing in “Blue Jasmine”?
Which Hermes scarf is Cate Blanchett wearing in “Blue Jasmine”?
Let’s Find Out
As a long time Woody Allen fan, I was so excited to make a video (seen above) honing in on the Hermes scarf donned by Cate Blanchett's character, Jasmine, in “Blue Jasmine”. This film follows Jasmine, a once affluent socialite compelled to seek refuge in San Francisco with her sister, Ginger, following a financial downfall. We first catch sight of Jasmine’s outfit walking through the airport, her Hermes Birkin accented with an Hermes scarf, but only a few details can be made out. Thus, the burning question persists: which Hermes scarf is she wearing?
The Hermes Scarf is: Hermes “Eperon d’Or”
Overview of Hermes Eperon d’Or & Henri d'Origny
Hermes “Eperon d’Or” was first issued by Hermes in 1974. Eperon d’Or is a motif synonymous with Hermes and has been re-released many times during the following years and possibly more: 1974, 1986, 1989/90, 1990, 1997, 2003, 2003/04, 2010/11 (from Exquisite Artichoke & Hermesology)
Each Hermes scarf is designed by an artist, who is commissioned by Hermes to design a scarf. This one seen on Cate Blanchett’s character, Jasmine, is by Henri d'Origny. He has designed about 70 Hermes scarves and has been with Hermes for over 60 years, not only designing scarves, but also watches, porcelain and more.

The Origin of “Eperon d’Or”
“At first glance, it is a skillfully orchestrated composition of leather and metal, loops and circles intertwined in complex harmony – a rosette in the form of a scarf. But as the eye focuses it discerns each of the elements that give this movement its rhythm in a repetition that is as soothing as it is intriguing. An urge draws us to follow this mysterious network with no beginning and no end. Spurs, stirrups, rein hardware and riding crops with three rings of gold: the curves and straight lines of horse tack used by Cadre Noir master riders of France's prestigious Saumur riding school established in the 19th century.” — hermes.com
