Which Hermes Scarf Is Worn in Marie Claire April 2000 Issue?
I received this question via DM
So let’s ID this Hermes scarf
Here is the full question, “There's a popular photo by Patrick DeMarchelier from Marie Claire April 2000 where the model is sitting on a city park bench with a dog, she wears a trench coat and has an Hermes scarf on her head. I've been trying to figure out what scarf it is for a very long time!”
This was such a specific request that I had to look into it. Of course the first thing I did was read the fine print with the items featured, but it simply stated “Silk Scarf”.
So next, I figured we’d do this the old fashioned way and take a look at all of the details. The woman who proposed this question actually had the original Marie Claire April 2000 issue and was able to provide these photos for me, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to see enough detail.
Here are the details
1. The blue and red hut that I’ve matched to these huts on the right
2. This apple that I’ve matched to this apple on the right
3. This building that I’ve matched to this building on the right
So, which scarf is Melanie McJannet wearing?
Melanie McJannet is wearing “Les Charmes des Plages Normandes” by Loïc Dubigeon (First Issued 1999)
Loic Dubigeon was born in 1934 in Nantes, France and became an artist in all sense of the word— a painter, muralist and sculptor. He was professionally trained and his works have quite the range. His pieces as a freelance artist are quite a 180 compared to the artwork done for Hermes. You can google it, but take this as a warning. His range is quite impressive.
Also “Les Charmes des Plages Normandes” was just rereleased on hermes.com in a 70in rectangle variation. “Charmes des Plages Normandes rectangle”. Below is the colorway Blanc / Bleu Glacier / Rose Pourpre selling for $1,000.
