How I Store My Hermes Scarf Collection

Because convenience
is key

One thing I knew I wanted when redesigning my closet was a place for all my Hermes scarves. I wanted them to be accessible, yet protected. Prior to storing them in these drawers, I stored them all in their boxes, but as my collection grew it just wasn’t practical anymore. This IKEA solution works perfectly, especially with the couple additions I made. And because it’s IKEA, I can always add more scarf drawers in the future.

So let’s go through how I did it step-by-step.

  1. The IKEA PAX System

The system I decided to go with for my closet is the IKEA PAX. I love the versatility and ability to customize. The process begins by choosing the width of the Wardrobe Frame. IKEA sells 3 widths, 39’’, 29’’ and 19’’ and I went with a combination of 29’’ and 19’’. They also sell two depths: 13’’ and 22’’. I went to for 22’’, which is standard. I thought the proportion was better for the room and for IKEA, the wider the unit, the greater the chance that the shelves will bow.

I used IKEA’s Wardrobe Planner tool, where you can input the specs of your room and actually choose the layout of your IKEA PAX.

2. Komplement Pull Out Tray

The skinny accessories tray is called the “Komplement Pull Out Tray”. I purchased these in 2 widths to fit both sizes of wardrobes I chose. The beauty of IKEA, is that you can arrange these however you’d like. You could even do a full wardrobe only consisting of these Komplement drawers. I just added one to the top of each drawer stack.

3. Komplement Glass Shelf

I used a “Komplement Glass Shelf” to sit just above my Pull Out Tray, to give the effect of a glass counter top, similar to what you would see in store. Although I know where each scarf is, it’s so helpful (and pretty) to be able to see them all before even opening the tray.

4. Drill Holes for Lights

If you are planning to add aftermarket LED lights, you will first want to drill a hole through each wardrobe unit so all units operate on the same on/off LED light remote. Of course, if you do not want to drill, you can buy shorter LED strips and have them all separate.

5. Add LED Light Strip

I purchased this LED Light Strip from Amazon. I liked that it came with a remote and also multiple settings for dimming the lights, as well as, cool and warm settings. These lights have a sticky backing, so I peeled off the back and stuck them around the wardrobe wall, just under the glass shelf.

6. Add Door Sweep

If you are looking for an extra level of protection, like I was, next add a door sweep to fill the gap between the Pull Out Tray and the Glass Shelf. I used the self adhesive and stuch the sweep on the inside perimeter of the Pull Out Tray. I such 4 pieces all the way around (including the back).

7. Done!

And there are your custom scarf drawers complete.
