From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2012/13 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Mughal art brought a style known as kundan to finery from the 17th century onward, gemstones were surrounded by fine gold ribbons and often, the jewel was lined with polychrome enamels, Many examples of this ancient aesthetic are reproduced here. In India, women -as well as men -wear such ornaments, which glorify and attest to their social and ethnic loyalties or appeal to power of the planets. The names of jewels alone invite us to travel: the arya (impressive necklace); the bazuband (an upper arm bracelet); the to wiz (an amulet); the sarpech (a turban ornament); the chandtikko (crescent moon-shaped forehead ornament)... This scarf is a hymn to a people, their history and their know how.
