From The Hermès Fall-Winter 1994/95 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The mandala is that concentric representation of the universe in which the Buddhist soul gladly loses itself. Let's pay homage to the beauty of Tibetan mandalas from the 15th and 16th centuries. In the foliated scrolls that stretch toward the corners outside the three circles, the lion, the horse, the stag and the eagle chase each other, while the sun sits enthroned on the altar that we reach through a door cut out of the exterior wall. In the center, the primordial flame flickers.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
