From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2016 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: A great connoisseur of the Native American people, the painter Antoine Tzapoff presents a portrait of a Crow Indian from the plains of Montana in the late I9th century. His costume is rich and finely ornamented, a feature that the Crow tribes carefully maintained to preserve their identity. Clothed in deerskin embroidered with beads, this man wears a headdress of eagle feathers from which ermine pelts trail. The horses surrounding him are adorned with a festive harness and their bridles are decorated with several metal pieces, vestiges of l7th century Spanish bits. The pride of this people is evident in his finery.
