From The Hermès Spring/Summer 1998 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The universe is a self-help committee and if trees grow it must be so that birds may benefit. The great concern of our feathered friends has always been to find a perch out of reach of cats. Long before the advent of telegraph poles, the Almighty, anxious about their safety, thought up the larch, the silver birch and the sycamore, just so that the little tawny ow, the great tit and the goldcrest may find a perch up above, thus ensuring their survival.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
