Why I Love This Pattern:

This motif takes its inspiration from the palaces of the Maharajahs, where doors open onto mystery and invite a passage between worlds. At the center are two fruit trees in bloom, symbols of life, fertility, and enlightenment, recalling the Bodhi Tree under which Buddha awakened. Around them we see dancing figures that embody the regenerative forces of nature, joined by Krishna playing his flute, peacocks that mirror the sun, and lotuses that symbolize cosmic harmony. The pillars carry the avatars of Vishnu, the fish, the boar, and the turtle, alongside Hanuman, protector and master of agility. At the corners, India’s most emblematic animals ascend: the elephant of kingship and wisdom, the radiant horse, the sacred cow of nourishment, and the tiger of power and initiation. Chariot wheels recall the cycles of the cosmos, while ritual motifs in the corners echo the protective designs drawn for centuries by Indian women. Surrounding it all, a fine frieze pays tribute to the intricacy of Indian art, found in both its fabrics and its temples. Full description here.
