From The Hermes Spring-Summer 2002 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: We're at Lorient or Cancale, when the fishermen retun to port, guided by beacons and buoys. The "tack" is technically the corner of the sail and is fixed to the deck of the sailing vessel. The latter sails on the port tack or the starboard tack, depending on whether it receives the wind from left or right. For us, it is the air of harmony which strikes us head on, with these nautical terms appearing so naturally along the coast of Britanny!
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
