Why I Love This Pattern: Françoise de la Perrière is known for iconic designs like Camails, Voitures à transformation, and Brides de cour. For this design, he drew inspiration from the collection of Émile Hermès. He was a collector of beautiful, and functional objects and gathered an extraordinary array of canes, horsewhips, and riding crops, many with pommels intricately carved into doe’s heads, ducks, ivory clogs, or simple rings. At the center of this design are two particularly interesting riding crops. One features an equestrian figure of Emperor Franz-Josef of Austria, who reigned from 1846 to 1916 and married the beloved Princess Sissi. The other, with its understated appearance, hides a surprising secret: a field-glass cleverly concealed within its shaft. Love a hidden secret in plain sight!
