Why I Love This Pattern: Caparaçons takes its name from the ornate coverings, called caparisons, traditionally used to dress elephants in ceremonial dress. At the heart of the design is the howdah: a decorative carriage placed on an elephant’s back, once used in India for regal travel. Often draped in vibrant fabrics and adorned with gems or precious metals, these elaborate ensembles speak to a rich tradition of pageantry and craftsmanship
