From The Hermès Spring-Summer 1994 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Live for the present moment, a wise precept. One can also enjoy measuring it. Sundials began to appear on churches in the 15th century and soon could be found on the walls of palaces and the pediments of public buildings. Between 1830 and 1860, sundials were a fashionable feature of elegant private dwellings. Far from prying eyes, the sundial marked the passing hours and, on its calibrated face, brought a burst of sunshine to family life.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
