From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2002/03 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Nicea, the ancient town of Asia Minor, became one of the centres of the Ottoman Empire from 1333, celebrated for pottery workshops. The dish inspiring this tribute dates from about 1570, the heyday of a tradition of ceramics rekindled by the discovery of a silicon paste looking like porcelain. Kept in the Sadberk Hanim Museum in Istanbul, its decoration reminds us that tulips, brought to Europe in the 16th century, once grew wild in Turkey.

Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
