From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2018/19 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: In the 19th century, the excellent reputation of French carriage-making travelled beyond Europe. This carriage, commissioned in 1894 by the Chinese empress Cixi (1835-1908) from the highly respected Parisian house of Mühlbacher, was designed to be drawn by four horses led by footmen. The model is ornamented by a multitude of scrolls in gilded wood, with a studded silk interior. The Morocco-leather harness with chased brass fittings was commissioned from the house of Hermès. Wlodek Kaminski paints a faithful portrait of this coupé, and adorns it with Indian stones and jewels worthy of the great maharajas.

- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
