Why I Love This Pattern: Headdresses decorated with brightly colored feathers sit just beneath shells native to the Pacific, especially cowries, which are easily recognized by their smooth oval shape and ridged center. Until the early 20th century, these shells were used as currency throughout the region and frequently appeared on ceremonial dress. This design by Laurence Bourthoumieux is a tribute to the rich culture of Papua New Guinea, a place where more than 700 languages are spoken and the terrain spans from tropical forests to high mountains and sweeping savannah. I love the gold ink used in the title too.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
