Why I Love This Pattern: Concours d’Étriers bring together two scarves and two distinct artistic perspectives from Françoise de la Perrière and Virginie Jamin. Both artists explored the same theme at different times, selecting the most beautiful stirrups from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, all drawn from the Emile Hermès collection. Some are minimal and functional, others ornamental, but each one is perfectly suited to its purpose. At the center of this scarf is a circular detail taken directly from de la Perrière’s original design.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
