From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2011 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Emile Hermès had the soul of a collector. From the age of - twelve, setting the usefulness and history of objects at the same level as their aesthetic appeal, he set about creating a collection where the horse links all. These stirrups belong to the equestrian and travellers' objects he carefully gathered together. Dating from the 18th, 19th and 2th century they journey through time and join a cheerful and original cho-reography, from where resounds the clinking of metals, the creaking of leather and the dull thud of wood. Originating from France, Africa, Argentina, China or Peru, made from silver and horn, from bronze, iron or brass and decorated with leather or enamel, all are bearers of a story which they share with us.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
