From The Hermès Spring-Summer 1989 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The battle is merciless in this race of crisscrossing. The sailboat seen here on the starboard tack (i.e. the one receiving the wind on the starboard side has the right of wav over his adversary, who has to decide then whether to tack or wear, to go against or with the wind. Those unfamiliar with the ins and outs of sailing can simply admire the beautiful frame formed by the flags that spell out the 26 letters of the alphabet.

Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
