Why I Love This Pattern: Founded in 1611 as a kimono maker, the historic Japanese fashion house Matsuzakaya in Kyoto opened its archives to Hermès for this design. The resulting scarf draws on a rich tradition where garments convey meaning and guided by age, social status, and cultural symbolism. Its pattern is filled with motifs from nature, daily life, and geometric forms, reflecting the layered visual language of kimono textiles. At its center is Ex-Libris, the iconic Hermès emblem featuring the groom and duc-carriage.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
