From The Hermes Fall-Winter 1988-1989 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: These flies are not the kind you swat. They live not in the air, but in the water. The fruit of the fisherman's most vivid imagination, "'flies" are the most elegant - and the most deceptive - way of catching salmon. Accomplished anglers say the hook in the feathers just nips the corner of the fish's mouth. The beast is then thrown back into the water, having simply provided the fisherman with a happy occasion to prove his prowess.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
