From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2002/03 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Here is the omnipresent carpet beneath the tent, this one from Anatoly or Asia Minor. Its patterns and rhythms are filled with symbols asserting the glory of God, the creator of all things. Tradition, more-over, has it that the weaver slips a mistake into his weaving on purpose, a tribute to the sort of perfection that can only be conceived of as divine. In the end, we can see that these rectangles are nothing less than mirrors, which ultimately reflect a faith.

From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2012/13 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Produced in the Orient for thousands of years, Kilims, woven wool rugs, are the memory of their peoples. Decorated with geometric patterns, their composition -mirroring thinking and bellef--is rich in symbolism. This scarf tells us of a very strange custom. The ornamentation of a carpet transposes a song in coloured rhythms and harmonies. The height, duration, intensity and tone of the notes dictate the use of blue, green, red... The song of a weaver guides her hand. From an early age, she has learned the melodies of the patterns and the successions of the hues. The design, inch by inch, obeys the voice... The beauty of an object is never divorced from its story.
