Notes: At the Musée National de la Marine in Paris, there is an incredible carved stern from Reale, a warship dating back to the 17th century. It was part of the royal fleet of Louis XIV and required an unusually large crew and sailed until the early 18th century. Hugo Grygkar, found inspiration for this design in the work of Pierre Puget. Puget, a French artist from Marseille, but studied in Florence and Rome, mastering sculpture to such an extent that he was later called “the French Michelangelo.”

From The Hermès Spring-Summer 1982 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: A masterpiece of brilliance and majesty. A symbol of royal power. The Louis XIV ornamentation of the "General's galley" in service from 1690 to 1715.
