From The Hermès Spring-Summer 1996 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: It is by analogy with the statuettes of the Virgin that the French gave the name of "marionnettes" to these dolls, which offered families farces, in miniature, from all over the world! This scarf presents an international cast, summoning to the sides of Pierrot and Colombine a dragon from the shades of China, life-size puppets from Sicily, as well as French high society characters of the Eighteenth Century and other examples from Japan, Africa or Egypt.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
