From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2012/13 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Emile Hermès, at 12 years old, bought a cane for a few pennies, the handle of which gave way, revealing an umbrella. Thus began the collection which inspired this scarf by Virginie Jamin. A knob in ivory, a ram in quartz, and a duck in horn share space with the heads and hooves of horses, a jockey with a disproportionate head or holding his horse by the halter. Metal, wood, cane, stone... the work and attention to detail are of a wonderful finesse. Some objects grace us by bending to all kinds of ornamentation. Giving artisans the opportunity to express their imagination, ingenuity, humour and expertise, they reflect the aesthetics of their era.
