From The Hermès Fall-Winter 1995/96 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: In the Nineteenth Century the Mailcoach (for post) and the Stagecoach (for travellers) offered London daily links with the provinces, punctual to within a quarter of an hour despite the worst weather. The central scene shows a departure for Brighton (412 hours away) captured by William Shayer, an artist specialising in the genre. The young Marquis of Worcester holds the reins, coach-driving being a favorite hobby for sons of aristocratic families.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
