From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2010 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Homage to the French hero of the United States War of Independence, this carré illustrates the triumphant parade of M. de Lafayette, when he returned to America for the first time in more than forty years after hostilities ended. It was ordered by the American university of Lafayette College of Pennsylvania, for the 250th anniversary of the birth of the marquis (1757-1834). Under the allegorical figures of Glory and Renown, the designer has represented the figure in court dress, at different moments of his journey, and has surrounded it with little medallions illustrating personalities, typical scenes of the time, insignia of honour... in a very eighteenth century style of affectation and elegance.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
