From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2011/12 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: In the blazing magnificence of its plumage the phœnix triumphant rises from the ashes. This mythical, startlingly beautiful bird lives several hundreds of years before being consumed in a nest of branches perfumed with myrrh and incense, only to be renewed in birth. The Greeks associated its name with that of the tree that sheltered the birth of Apollo, god of Light. For the Ancient Greeks, it was the date palm that symbolised fertility and longevity. Myths possess the wonderful gift of enabling us to travel in time and space and this scarf, which makes itself the messenger, encircles the bird with leaves and the fruit of date palms.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
