From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2009 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The carré looks back at the epic of Pierre Loti and his insatiable desire for elsewhere. His peregrinations have inspired many writings, sketches and photographs. A hive of images have inspired this carré, a sort of puzzle reuniting the many lives and facets of the writer: the young army recruit, the proud French Camel Corps soldier, the naval officer, the Turkish dandy, the eccentric orientalist, and many more. Signs of places visited, collages of photographs, objects and portraits... the carré turns into an exotic travel diary where we find this famous phrase: "Oh, how good it feels here, but how disastrous this desire that grasps me, to always want to depart again."

- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
