From The Hermès Fall-Winter 1988/89 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: In man's instinct for harmony, he seeks to make the beauty of the container reflect the nobility of its contents. Our scarf depicts a wealth of flacons in silver, gold, enamel, Bohemian crystal, bronze and porcelain. Of Indian, Chinese, Japanese, English, German, Spanish and French origin, they are from the famous Givaudan collection of historic perfume bottles, shown here with Hermès's own fragrance bottles. The point is that only great perfumers can fashion a flacon as beautiful as the captured fragrance.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
