From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2010 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Like a strange score played by the angels setting the creation of the world to music, the carré Quintessence exudes a dreamlike atmosphere. Featuring giant symbols of the bass and treble clefs, the design mixes characters, musical instruments and astrolabes, which seem to float in space, charged with waves and particles of energy. The astrolabes symbolise the research into and mastery of the universe. At the centre, near the hourglass of time, an angel marks time for the creation of the world. Clouds swirl under the baton of an imaginary orchestra conductor. Seated on the stars, two angels - the alpha and omega of time - contemplate the symbol of infinity.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
