From The Hermès Spring-Summer 1999 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The decorative style known as "rocaille", very much in vogue in the eighteenth century, was based on or-amentation, reproducing or evoking shell forms, those curiosities, which have fascinated man ever since shellfish have existed. They have fascinated him; they have also nourished him, calling him to adventures on far off strands, filling his ears with the rumours of the sea and embellishing the display cabinets of collectors.

Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
