From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2003 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The style known as "rocaille", under the Regency and also Louis XV, refers to the decorative fashion of reproducing the whorls of certain sea-shells, going so far as to plaster these same shells promiscuously over walls and ceilings. Now, does this process betray signs of a stay-at-home inspiration which glo-rifles the stability of the mussel-shell, clinging to its rock? Or, on the contrary, does it reveal the assumptions of a virile imagination thirsty for the murmur of the oceans? To each his yearning.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
