From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2018/19 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The Central Asian saddle that served as a model for Wlodek Kaminski came from the Émile Hermès collection Sino-Mongolian in style, it was made in 1832, during the Qing dynasty, the last imperial dynasty to rule over China. This sumptuous piece combines wood, parchment, leather and silver. The latter is beaten, engraved and then set with cabochons of coral, amber, lapis lazuli or rock crystal. The saddle pad is composed of finely embroidered wool and silk velvet cloth, while the stirrups, crowned with dragon heads, are decorated with enamel. A true masterpiece of craftsmanship.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
