From The Hermès Spring-Summer 1991 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The art of kite flying offers to those who practice it some of the same joys experienced by puppeteers. There is nothing more satisfying than being the one who "pulls the strings". The models presented here are all in silk, and most of them are inspired by Japanese mythological figures. In their original size, some of them are as large as three meters. They make some very pretty targets or fishing in the sky.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
