Why I Love This Pattern: Paladins, as they’re often called, were the legendary warriors who fought alongside Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great. As King of the Franks in the late 8th century, Charlemagne united much of Western Europe under one Christian rule and became the first Holy Roman Emperor. He’s often remembered as the Father of Europe for his role in shaping the continent’s early identity.
