Why I Love This Pattern: In 2013, Hermès collaborated with Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons on a limited edition capsule entitled Comme des Carrés. The collection combined Kawakubo’s eye with Hermès’ scarf expertise, resulting in two series: Black and White, featuring five graphic designs in monochrome, available only at Comme des Garçons stores in Paris, New York, and Tokyo; and in color, with six scarves in gingham, stripes, and bold geometric patterns, sold exclusively through Dover Street Market in London and Tokyo. Kawakubo described the project as a way of transforming Hermès’ scarves by layering abstract imagery onto their surfaces, creating designs that felt at once familiar and entirely new.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
