From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2015/16 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Annie Faivre, with her delicate and precise hand, unveils a few of Queen Zenobia's treasures. Imbued with a strong temperament, variously described as powerful, audacious, cultivated, and beautiful, she reigned over Palmyra, desert oasis in Syria on the Silk Road, between 266 and 272 A.D. When her husband Odenath died, their son, being too young, became king only in name. She seized power and engaged her troops in a vast campaign of conquest. Syria, Egypt and a part of Asia Minor fell before her. The Roman Emperor Aurelian became alarmed and the important cultural centre of Palmyra was plundered... with Rome holding onto its riches.
