From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2015/16 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: This design pays homage to the Huichol, or Wixáritari, native people of the Sierra Made Occidental in Mexico. Inspired by their crafts of beaded embroidery and yarn paintings, the Mexican artist Montserrat Gonzalez Lugo depicts their spirituality, a polytheism that deifies everything that originates in nature. At the centre of this scarf is a guardian symbol: the Huichol cross or God's eye. And, not unlike the four corners of the earth, the four elements of Huichol cosmology. Water, the origin of life, Tatei Haramara. Earth, the soul of the world, Tate Yurianaka. Fire, Tatehuari. And lastly, Air, Kieri, also called... l'Arbre du Vent.
