From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2009 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: The carré portrays, in a poetic manner, various stirrups from the Émile Hermès Collection. It depicts a silver side-saddle stirrup (South America, 19th Century), a stirrup carved out of wood with a silver finish (Peru, 18th Century), a pair of stirrups made of brass (Middle East) and a copper stirrup (France and Spain, end 18th Century). Such finery was intended to garnish the feet of male and female gentry worldwide whilst out riding. Through their variety, the ingenuity and the inventive beauty of detail, such finery pays tribute to the know-how of craftsmen, having put their talent to the service of noble equestrian art.
Why I Love This Size
The 70cm format is actually my favorite out of all the sizes. I find it small enough where I’m not overwhelmed by fabric, but big enough when I can still do a few fancier knots. The 70cm also uses a lighter weight silk than any of the other sizes, which gives it a casual effortless look. I always recommend this size for petites as well, it’s almost a petite version of a 90cm. But even if you’re taller it works perfectly too.
