We often come to know artists through their creations, but a life is also shaped by the people we meet along the way.

Kermit Oliver, the first American artist to collaborate with Hermès, spent many years working for the postal service in Waco, Texas. Even as his art gained international recognition, the friendships he formed there remained an important part of his life.

The pieces in the upcoming November 16th-18th auction were personal gifts from Kermit Oliver to a beloved co-worker who cherished not only the collection, but, more importantly, their friendship. Four were personally signed by Kermit Oliver, including a framed Madison Avenue, a mounted Pawnee La Shar Pawnee, Les Amériques, and a Pawnee La Shar Pawnee jacket accompanied by original photographs taken at the Waco post office. The collection also includes a Samuel de Champlain and Marquis de Lafayette, both gifted by Kermit Oliver.

Together, these pieces are a testament to friendship and to the idea that a life’s most meaningful legacy is found not only in what we create, but in the people with whom we share it.
