Why I Love This Pattern: Bingata, a dyeing technique from 14th-century Okinawa, emerged when the region was the Ryukyu Kingdom, a cultural crossroads between Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. The process involves applying a stencil to fabric, coating it with rice paste to create patterns, and treating areas with a soy-based mix to fix pigments. This intricate method produces delicate designs, exemplified in this motif by Natsuno Hidaka, which draws inspiration from this tradition.
