From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2010 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: A composition of bridles taken "on the hoof, this carre recalls those tales where objects come alive by night, before once again docilely resuming their place when morning comes! It shows a series of harnesses made at the beginning of the last century by Hermes for a family of Polish aristocrats. Today transformed into a museum, their stately home of Lancut in Poland houses a very fine collection of carriages, coaches and harnesses, forgotten for years. The different exhibits were laid out on the ground by the designer, who first photographed his composition, before redesigning it to bring out the lustre of the metal and the sheen of the leather.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
