From The Hermes Fall-Winter 1987/88 2003 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Ah, the good old days of horse-drawn carriages! There was no talk back then of carburetors or contact points and the vehicle's running board, still made of a simple strip of leather, answered to the charming name of "mud flap? Doors were already called doors, and here are four beautiful specimens, all belonging to the Hermes collection. On the bottom left is the door of the royal coach which carried Louis XVI in person through his coronation ceremonies in Reims on June 10, 1775.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
