From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2000/01 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Around 1895, in Stuttgart, a certain Richard Steiff, who had to draw bears in the Zoo, undertook to make some into fur toys. Two Americans were so charmed by this initiative that they ordered 3000 copies of his creation for the fair at Leipzig. So there is an Anglo-Saxon connection for our most faithful companion, not only of childhood, but also adulthood, since one of the teddies in this scarf was the bosom friend of a charming octogenarian, whose express wish was to have it buried with her.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
