From The Hermès Fall-Winter 1995/96 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Bartholdi (1834-1904), the Alsace sculptor, whose masterpiece, the renowned Liberty statue, dominates New York harbour, created this monument for the town of Bordeaux, although it was acquired in 1890 by the town of Lyon. Cascading water brings to mind the Horse, whose impetuosity has been harnessed by man, but it also stands for Woman, whose ardent vigour is impelled by the eternal torrents of Life itself.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
